Summer Reading (Part One)
The school year is quickly winding down, which means it’s time for me to start thinking about summer reading. Since I won’t be teaching summer school this year, I’ll have plenty of time to dig into my TBR pile.
One book that’s been sitting on the pile for a long while now is George R. R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones. Like so many others, I started watching the HBO series and was sucked in immediately but everyone I know who has read the books swears the show only scratches the surface of the awesomeness that is the series. During the school year though, I tend to look for lighter fair, so these books were set aside to be started later. Well, later is now and I was excited to discover Bookalicious.org has organized a read along beginning in July. I anticipate this book will generate rich discussion and many questions. Someone suggested I create an Excel spreadsheet to keep up with the characters; while that’s not my style, I never read without a pen in my hand and a notebook nearby, so family trees may be created.
In the meantime, I’ve also gotten many great reading suggestions from my students and Book Expo America is next week. Something tells me this is going to be a summer of great reads.
What are you reading this summer?
