What is #SummerThrowDown?

Quick Overview from Heise Reads & Recommends

The purpose: To support, encourage, and celebrate reading and librarians and teachers.
The timeframe: June 18 – July 17
The guidelines: Every book you read counts as a book read!

While I technically still have four teaching days left (okay, exam days) I’ll be getting a jump on my summer reading pile by joining Team Teacher for the 2012 Summer Throw Down. This is a friendly challenge organized by Heise Reads and Recommends and  Wyz Reads. Basically, it began as a classroom challenge and grew to include the teachers and as people followed along on twitter, it became the Teachers vs. Librarians Summer Throw Down Challenge. We’ll each be keeping track of how much we read from June 18-July 17, throwing down some friendly trash-talking, and finally seeing who will walk away with bragging rights. In the end, it’s a challenge where all the participants come out on top because we will all have read some (hopefully) amazing books. I’m using this challenge as a way to jump start my summer reading in conjunction with a couple of other read-alongs. It’s shaping up to be a very bookish summer for me.
